Middlesbrough have become the latest Championship club to take an interest in Bristol Rovers striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, a report from Bristol Live has claimed.

Clarke-Harris only joined The Gas from Coventry City in January, but the striker has already had a huge impact at The Memorial Stadium, scoring 18 goals in 26 League One appearances across the second half of last season and the first months of the current campaign.

It is thought that form has now caught the attention of Middlesbrough, with the Teesside club's head of recruitment Gary Gill reportedly keeping a close eye on the striker, with Clarke-Harris' impressive start to this campaign only enhancing interest in the striker.

Previous reports have linked a number of second-tier outfits with the striker, who is said to have already attracted the attention of the likes of Huddersfield, Hull, Reading, Preston and Wigan.

According to the latest reports, however, Bristol Rovers are keen to ward off the latest interest in Clarke-Harris, and the League One side are keen to secure a new contract for their key asset, with talks reportedly scheduled for this week, where both parties are said to be confident of reaching an agreement.

There are currently two years remaining on Clarke-Harris' current deal at Bristol Rovers, tieing him to the club until the summer of 2021.

The Verdict

I think this would be a good signing for Middlesbrough.

Despite the apparent desire to take a more attacking approach under Jonathan Woodgate than they did under Tony Pulis, things haven't quite worked out in that sense for 'Boro so far this season.

Currently, Woodgate's side have found the net just nine times in their nine league games, and that is something they will want to improve if that new style of play is to be considered a success.

You feel a move to a club such as Middlesbrough would surely be an appealing one for Clarke-Harris, and with Championship interest growing, it does seem as though the chance to step up into the second tier for the striker could make Bristol Rovers' attempt to secure a new contract for him increasingly difficult.
