According to The Mirror’s James Nursey, Middlesbrough are on the verge of signing Britt Assombalonga from Nottingham Forest, with the striker due for a medical in the North East.

Assombalonga has been on the radar of Garry Monk all summer and the 38-year-old appears to have finally got his man, with a medical planned.

Watford and Burnley have also shown an interest in Assombalonga, with the latter seeing an £8m bid rejected earlier this summer.

It remains to be seen how much Boro will pay for Assombalonga’s service, but reports last week indicated the Riverside club were prepared to pay £14m, whilst offering £60k-a-week wages.

Assombalonga’s form over the last three seasons has made him one of this summer’s most in-demand players.

Having arrived at Forest in 2014, the 24-year-old has gone on to score 30 goals from just 65 Sky Bet Championship appearances, including 15 during the 2014/15 campaign.

After struggling with injury during the 2015/16 campaign, Assombalonga was back to his best last season, scoring 14 goals for Forest and playing a major role in helping them survive relegation.

It was Assombalonga’s brace on the final day of the 2016/17 campaign that set Forest up for a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town, which confirmed their Championship status.
