Middlesbrough edging closer to completing deal for £5m midfielder

Championship promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough are edging nearer to signing Sunderland midfielder Paddy McNair, according to a report in the Chronicle.

The former Man United man has been a man in demand this summer, but with a £5m fee now agreed between the clubs, it appears McNair is finally set to make his move and undergo a medical at the Stadium of Light this Monday.

McNair was one of few shining lights for the Black Cats last season as they slipped woefully into League One following a miserable season which saw them part ways with both Simon Grayson and Chris Coleman, before settling on Jack Ross to leas them into League One next term.

However, the club still need to sell players off to raise funds and clear wages to bring in new stars, and McNair was always going to be one who caught the eye.

Middlesbrough themselves will be hopeful that McNair can replicate the form her has shown for Sunderland and Northern Ireland over the past six months, and his versatility will be something which massively appeals to Boro boss Tony Pulis.

Boro and Sunderland fans, what do you think to this? Pleased to finally see the deal completed? Let us know your thoughts!
