Middlesbrough attacker Martin Braithwaite looks to depart the club in January in a loan switch to La Liga side Leganes, according to reports from the Telegraph.

The Danish international has scored just three goals in nineteen appearances for Tony Pulis’ men this season, taking his tally up to just nine goals in 40 appearances for the North East club.

A £10million signing under Garry Monk from Toulouse last season, the 27-year-old endured an impressive loan spell at French side Bordeaux last term, scoring four goals in 11 starts for the Ligue 1 side.

It now looks, however, that the forward’s time at Middlesbrough could be up, with the North East club reportedly agreeing a loan switch with Leganes ahead of a January move - as Pulis looks to free up Braithwaite’s reported £50,000-a-week wages in order to fund a winter overhaul.

Boro, who look set to sign Huddersfield winger Rajiv van la Parra on loan, currently sit fifth in the Sky Bet Championship table, after just one win in their previous six league games.

The Verdict

It just hasn’t been the signing that Boro would have hoped for, and it’s probably the best decision to let Braithwaite leave in January.

After proving himself to be a regular goalscorer in Ligue 1 as well as for the Denmark national team, Braithwaite looked to be a quality signing for Boro last season, and would have got fans excited with such a hefty price-tag.

The signing of van la Parra signals the end of Braithwaite’s time at the Riverside, and he’ll be looking to improve over in Spain.
