Hull City are hoping to sign a pair of Middlesbrough players on loan, according to reports.

Marvin Johnson and Ashley Fletcher are two players on Hull's radar ahead of the loan deadline passing towards the end of this month, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.

Hull expect Kamil Grosicki to depart with his former club Rennes - who play in Ligue 1 - battling with Serie A side Genoa and Greek outfit Panathinaikos for the winger.

If the Poland international does depart, Hull have funds to spend on replacing his attacking creativity.

Boro's Johnson and Fletcher are being targeted by Nigel Adkins as he aims to gain his first league win of the season.

Johnson joined Boro last summer from Oxford United but failed to make the desired impact, starting just six league games for the North East outfit.

The 27-year-old can play anywhere down the left flank and could be a like-for-like replacement on the wing for Grosicki.

Fletcher also struggled after arriving at the Riverside Stadium last summer and scored just one league goal in the 2017/18 season before joining Sunderland on loan.

But this season, the 22-year-old striker has impressed and he scored twice in midweek against Notts County.

The Verdict

Middlesbrough should let Johnson leave on loan but keep Fletcher as a back-up.

The 6ft 2in forward, formerly of Manchester United and West Ham United, can play a vital back-up role to Britt Assombalonga and provide a presence up front from the bench.

Fletcher would be an asset for Hull if they could land him, provided he keeps up his current form and does not revert back to last season's poor showings.
