Sky Bet Championship high-flyers Middlesbrough are considering offering the central defender Daniel Ayala a new contract, according to HITC.
Although Ayala has been sidelined for the past month with an ankle injury, there is no doubt about his quality, and is easily one of the best defenders outside of the Premier League.
Boro manager Aitor Karanka will be looking to sign up Ayala on long term contract to deter a long list of suitors that are pursuing him, including Premier League high-flyers West Ham United and Leicester City, as well as the North East pair of Sunderland and Newcastle United.
The Spaniard is also attracting attention from Liga BBVA in Spain, with his former club Sevilla being the front runner if he is looking to return to Spain.
However, Karanka will be hoping that the improved terms will be enough to keep his compatriot at the club.
With only 12 months left on his current contract, Karanka will be looking to seize the opportunity to nail down the centre half as he looks to prepare for life in the Premier League or another season fighting for promotion.
Middlesbrough fans… What do you make of the news? Would Ayala be a good player to nail down on a long term contract? Will he help Middlesbrough gain promotion? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
