On-loan Middlesbrough winger, Rajiv van la Parra has returned to Huddersfield Town for treatment on back injury picked up in recent weeks.

The Examiner broke the news and his absence is likely to be hugely frustrating for the winger and Middlesbrough supporters, who would have been keen to see him challenge for a starting spot.

Van La Parra is unable to play for Huddersfield this season due to the terms and conditions of his loan deal, so he'll be keen to get back into action at the earliest of opportunities.

He picked up the knock in training and has opted to return to Huddersfield to undergo treatment for the issue.

The winger is out of contract at the end of this season, although his parent club do have the opportunity to extend his contract by a further year if they wish to do so.

Van La Parra hasn't featured for Boro since their 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United back in February and he has every right to feel frustrated at his lack of game time.

Since arriving at the Riverside in January, he has made just three appearances in total for Tony Pulis' side and evidently isn't a man in Pulis' good books.

Many would have thought that Middlesbrough would have been an assured bet to finish inside the top six, but a dismal run of form has seen them slip out of the play-off places at the worst possible time.

They'll be keen to get their season back on track when they are next in action against play-off rivals, Bristol City on Tuesday evening.

The Verdict:

This will be hugely frustrating.

Van la Parra has hardly featured for Boro this season and it's certainly been a loan spell to forget for the Huddersfield winger.

This latest injury just sums his season up.
