Sky Bet Championship side Middlesbrough are interested in appointing Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder as their new manager, according to reports from the Express and Star.

The Teesside club are still on the lookout for a new manager, having let go of Tony Pulis upon the expiry of his contract following the conclusion of a disappointing campaign.

Plenty of names have been linked with the vacant role at the Riverside, with Barnsley's Daniel Stendel and club coach Jonathan Woodgate believed to be on the club's radar.

But now, with West Bromwich Albion also on the lookout for a new manager, it is claimed that Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is on both of the club's radars.

The 51-year-old has been nothing short of a revelation since taking the reins at Bramall Lane, guiding his boyhood club to two promotions in three years, with Premier League football now on the horizon.

But due to off-field matters regarding the club's ownership, there is a chance that Wilder might not be in charge of the Blades come the first game of the 2019/20 season.

The dispute between the club's joint-owners Kevin McCabe and Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia could leave the manager considering his future, due to not having full control of budgets and key decisions.

The Verdict

Even despite United's poor ownership, I just cannot see Wilder leaving Sheffield United any time soon.

He loves the club and he's supported them since he was a child, and he's spent so much time and effort in trying to get them back into the Premier League.

If they had remained in the Championship for another year, then I probably could have seen it happening, but not now.
