McGoldrick is currently a free agent, having left Sheffield United at the end of last season following the expiration of his contract, after a four-year spell at Bramall Lane.
Now however, it seems as though the 34-year-old’s search for a new club may soon be coming to an end.
According to this latest update, McGoldrick is now close to completing a move to Middlesbrough, after spending Friday at the Championship club’s Rockliffe training ground.
A move to Middlesbrough would reunite McGoldrick with Chris Wilder, who previously managed the striker at Sheffield United.
During his spell with the Blades, the striker scored 30 goals in 136 appearances in all competitions for the club.
If confirmed, McGoldrick could become Middlesbrough’s fourth summer signing, following the permanent arrivals of goalkeeper Liam Roberts and centre back Darragh Lenihan, as well as the loan signing of wing-back Ryan Giles from Wolves.

This does feel like a rather interesting one to consider for Middlesbrough.
With Andraz Sporar, Aaron Connolly and Folarin Balogun having now all left the club following the expiration of their loan deals, the club do need some attacking reinforcements.
McGoldrick would obviosly add to their options up front, and the fact he already knows Wilder could help in terms of making this move happen.
However, the 34-year-old was never the most prolific striker at Sheffield United, so you do feel as though ‘Boro will need to sign some more striker, even if this deal does indeed go through.
