Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka is set to make Patrick Bamford his priority January transfer target, according to the Northern Echo.
The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Premier League side Crystal Palace but he has played just eight games in all competitions, and just 74 minutes of top flight football.
Bamford spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and he scored 19 goals as the club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.
Due to his lack of game time, the Chelsea striker is expected to activate a clause in his loan deal that would allow him to return to Stamford Bridge, with Jose Mourinho set to send him back out on loan.
Karanka added David Nugent and Cristhian Stuani to his ranks in the summer but that will not put him off trying to bring Bamford back to the club.
Boro are currently second in the Championship after winning their last three league games and they are just two points behind league leaders Brighton.
Karanka’s side face Gary Rowett’s Birmingham City at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, in a match that Boro will undoubtedly be eager to win, as they could potentially go top of the Championship table.
