Tony Pulis and Middlesbrough have been given a boost in their hunt to sign Bristol City man Joe Bryan, with Newcastle United reportedly pulling out of a deal to sign the versatile Championship star.

According to the Hartlepool Mail, Rafa Benitez's men have pulled out of the race to sign Bryan, paving the way for Boro to make a move for a player who has been in fine form for Lee Johnson and the Robins in the last two seasons.

Bryan, reportedly valued at at least £6m by Bristol, is a wanted man this summer, as the likes of Leeds United also have an interest, but Boro manager Pulis will be buoyed by the news of Newcastle pulling out of the race for Bryan, and will no doubt be hoping to complete a deal in the coming weeks.

Capable of playing both left back and as an attacking left sided winger, Bryan has established himself as one of the most consistent performers in the Championship over the last few seasons, and has been a mainstay of the Robins first XI since making his debut back in 2011.

However, with so much interest in him, his time at Ashton Gate could well be coming to an end, with Pulis and Boro among a host of clubs ready to strike.

Boro fans, what do you think? Would Bryan be a good signing? Let us know in the comments!
