Bristol City are not going to be making a move for Charlton Athletic forward Chuks Aneke during the summer transfer window with him not a player on their list of options, according to Bristol Live.

Aneke is facing an uncertain future at the moment and it has been reported by teamTALK that he has rejected the offer of a new deal at the Valley as his contract runs down.

However, South London Press have since confirmed that the League One club do indeed still remain in talks with the forward over a new deal.

The same report from teamTALK outlined that the likes of Bristol City, Middlesbrough, QPR, Coventry City and Reading are all interested in making a move to sign Aneke this summer.

That comes after the striker fired in 15 goals in 38 appearances for the Addicks in League One last season to potentially show that he is a player that is ready to make the step up to the Championship this summer.

According to the latest update from Bristol Live, the Robins are set to pursue moves for other targets this summer such as Michael Smith and Joe Pigott and that Aneke is not a name that they are looking to sign at this moment in time.

The verdict

This should be a major boost for Charlton’s hopes of keeping hold of Aneke with them now having one less side to worry about in terms of trying to convince him to sign a new deal. However, with the likes of Middlesbrough and QPR still in the hunt for his signature, it is still going to be very challenging for the Addicks to keep hold of their main goalscorer this summer.

The 27-year-old is a player that seems to have the ability to possibly make an impact in the Championship, but Bristol City obviously believe that there are one or two better options out there for them to move for this summer. You can understand that and given that Smith is someone who is more proven in the Championship, and Pigott outscored the forward last season in a weaker side.

Middlesbrough, QPR and the other teams interested will also see their own chances of signing Aneke boosted by this latest update and they could now look to take advantage by edging ahead and trying to wrap up his signature. He is still a player that is looking more likely to move than stay with the Addicks at this stage.
