Rudy Gestede has taken to his personal Twitter account to post a picture indicating that he is close to returning to first-team action for Middlesbrough, ahead of Sunday’s crunch clash with Leeds United at Elland Road.
Garry Monk has been without the striker since late August, after Gestede picked up a freak dead-leg injury, which halted an impressive start to the season for the Teessiders.
Gestede has missed the last two months, but the 29-year-old’s latest Twitter activity indicates he is edging closer to a return, using a string of emojis accompanying a picture of him celebrating a goal.

Middlesbrough have managed in the Frenchman’s absence, and after a slow start to the season, it is likely that Gestede will return to a squad looking to push on for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship.
Monk has overseen a magnificent run of results in the Championship, and following a 1-0 victory over Sunderland is the club’s last outing, Boro moved to fifth in the table.
The Teessiders will be looking to strengthen their grip on a place in the top-six this Sunday when they travel to Elland Road to face Leeds, who are on a contrasting run of form in the Championship, having lost seven of their last nine.
Although it is unclear when Gestede will be returning to first-team action, the striker’s Twitter post is encouraging, with it a clear indication he is well on the road to recovery.
Middlesbrough have particularly missed the Frenchman, but his return will be a positive for Monk, with Gestede handing Boro an alternative in attack to the likes of Britt Assombalonga and Martin Braithwaite.
