Tranmere Rovers are on their way to Sky Bet League One for next season after winning the League Two play-off final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

After an as expected tight affair between the Super White Army and Newport County, it was eventually Connor Jennings who struck the winner, minutes before the game needed penalties to decide it.

Jennings, then, was the goal-scoring hero of the day but, more often than not this season, it’s been James Norwood who’s been the man to fire Tranmere to victories.

After the game, then, it was only natural for Micky Mellon to field questions over the striker’s future after recent weeks had seen reports that the likes of Ipswich Town were keen.

This is what his manager had to say:

“I don’t know, I really am not trying to duck the question.

“Let’s try [and sign him,] he’s a fantastic lad and he’s done great. We will work and we will see if we can do it.”

Mellon, then, clearly cannot commit to saying where he sees Norwood next season and that might well be a bit of a dampener on what was otherwise a great weekend for the club.

Indeed, with Ipswich’s budget surely set to be far greater than Tranmere’s next season, money could well do the talking in the coming months.

Rovers have done all they can in order to keep Norwood for next year with their promotion, but whether it’s enough remains to be seen.
