Ipswich Town struggled in the 2016/17 season and escaped relegation by a mere four points, much to the displeasure of the Portman Road faithful.

At many points throughout the season there were calls for Mick McCarthy to go but if the experienced manager can have a strong summer window, then the tables could turn back in his favour.

One position that the Tractor Boys simply must strengthen is their attacking options.

The East Anglian side scored just 48 goals this season, finishing as one of the division's lowest scorers.

With the addition of more goals next season, McCarthy's side could shoot back up the table and regain a place in and around the play-offs, a position they were in just a year ago.

Over the next few pages, FLW writer Tom Rawcliffe will identify THREE attackers who Mick McCarthy needs to look at signing to improve his side's chances for next season.....

Jordan Hugill

Ipswich's interest in Preston forward has been no secret for the past few months with Mick McCarthy having a bid rejected for the 24-year-old striker.

Hugill netted a respectable 12 goals this season and his overall performances have impressed many this season with his old-school target man approach.

With Hugill in the side, Ipswich could increase their goalscoring tally which could resultantly help the side to charge up the table.

Fraizer Campbell

Another option for Ipswich to consider is Crystal Palace striker Fraizer Campbell.

The forward has arguably wasted the last few years of his career and a move to the Championship could be the best thing for him.

Despite making 11 appearances this season, he has only spent 142 minutes on the pitch in the league even with their domestic struggle this campaign.

He has also previously succeeded in England's second tier, scoring 22 goals in 46 matches for Hull and Cardiff City.

Lee Tomlin

Another attacking option for the Tractor Boys could be current Bristol City player Lee Tomlin.

Tomlin has succeeded at basically every club he's been at no matter what the level, barring his pretty unsuccessful spell with Bournemouth in the Premier League.

His stats in the Championship speak volume when you see that he's netted 42 goals and assisted a further 37 during his spell with various clubs in the second tier.

His service could really bring the best out of Ipswich's current rank of forwards as well as the goals he will inevitably provide himself.
