Mick McCarthy wants Emyr Huws to avoid injuries even though he won't be at Ipswich next season.

The Ipswich Town boss is leaving the club at the end of the season after his contract wasn't extended with his poor relationship with the fans playing a major part in that.

This hasn't stopped him in hoping that one of his major signings is able to put his injury troubles behind him, so he can thrive for the Tractor Boys.

Huws was signed permanently in the summer of 2017 for £250,000 by McCarthy, according to the Green'Un, after impressing on loan, but he has only been able to make five league appearances after repeated setbacks due to injuries.

Here's what McCarthy had to say to the Green'Un about the talented Welshman: "He’s been on that road to recovery and there was something else that needed looking at, so hopefully for him he will be alright for pre-season."

Having managed to sign him I was delighted so we were bitterly disappointed to lose him because he’s a good footballer."

"He would have been (key) this season so I don’t see any reason why he won’t be."

The Verdict

Huws has the potential to be a bargain for Ipswich based on how much he was bought for because his talent is there for all to see. However, his injuries continue to hold him back, so hopefully he can get a long run in the first-team next season.

Huws' issues have weakened the options in midfield significantly, but it's nice to see that McCarthy wants to see him thrive even though he won't be able to benefit from it next season.
