Sheffield United beat Ipswich Town on Saturday to move level on points with second placed Cardiff, which prompted praise from Mick McCarthy.

The Tractor Boys manager knows exactly how to get promoted from the Championship, having achieved the feat with Sunderland and Wolves over the years and he wouldn't be surprised to see the Blades do it this season.

They're a good side. I think they'll finish top six. I don't see them falling away and they've got momentum. That's a powerful thing and they've also got good players,” he told the Sheffield Star.

He also revealed he had to make a tactical tweak to stop the flow of pressure from the hosts.

Sheffield United have a good way of playing, they all look to be working very hard for each other. I had to change the way we were playing. They were having too much of the ball and we stemmed the tide.”

A Chris Basham goal was the difference between the sides and it was the fifth home win of the season for Chris Wilder's men – one more than any other side in the league.

The Verdict

It's always nice to hear praise from opposition manager's and Sheffield United fans will appreciate the honesty from Mick McCarthy.

There's no reason why the Blades can't continue this great run, because as the ex-Wolves manager points out, they have momentum and good players.

They also have Chris Wilder who has worked miracles over the past few years at different clubs, so nobody should be surprised if McCarthy's prediction is bang on come May.
