Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed his intention to recall striker Kieffer Moore from his loan spell with Rotherham United in January, in an interview with the club.

The 25-year-old has been scoring for fun in the third tier, and leads the League One goalscoring charts with an impressive thirteen goals in only seventeen appearances.

Signed from then non-league side Forest Green Rovers in January, Moore struggled to make an impact at Portman Road, failing to find the net in eleven Championship fixtures.

A loan spell with Rotherham materialised in the summer, with Moore finally finding his feet in the Football League at The New York Stadium.

Ipswich are chasing a place in the top-six, with McCarthy keen to add Moore to his squad.

“He’ll be coming back, that’s my view and we’ll see how many goals he can score in the Championship,” explained the former Republic of Ireland boss.

“Let him keep playing, playing well and scoring goals, and we’ll deal with it (his return) when the time comes.”

The Verdict

McCarthy has no choice but to recall Moore.

The striker is in sensational form, and the long-serving boss needs as many goal scorers in his squad as possible, as he looks to guide the Championship’s longest serving side back to the Premier League.

The big forward would offer a different option to the ones currently at his disposal, with the 6ft 5in giant able to play as both a target man and as a centre forward.

Moore is showing all the signs of becoming a great second tier striker, and McCarthy would be foolish not to give him a chance in the new year.
