Former England striker Michael Owen reckons Arsenal will have too much quality for Portsmouth when the two sides meet at Fratton Park in the FA Cup this evening.

Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Olympiakos when they travel to the south coast tonight, and they will face a Portsmouth side who have recently boosted their League One promotion hopes after back-to-back wins.

Pompey have also impressed in cup competitions so far this campaign with Kenny Jackett's side having defeated Fleetwood and Barnsley in the FA Cup so far, while they recently booked their spot in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley.

However, Owen believes that Portsmouth will struggle to contain their Premier League opponents this evening, with the former Manchester United frontman suggesting that Mikel Arteta will field an attack-minded side against Portsmouth.

"The Gunners are undefeated in 25 of their last 28 FA Cup matches and I think they have too much about them to be worrying about an upset," Owen told Bet Victor.

"Now that Arsenal no longer have the Europa League to focus on, I fancy Mikel Arteta to set his men up with attacking intent, aiming to secure an early goal and settle any nerves.

"If that happens, I can see Arsenal dispatching Pompey with relative ease and thereby extending their impressive FA Cup record."

Arsenal's Europa League defeat to Olympiakos means the FA Cup represents their last remaining chance of picking up silverware this campaign, with the Gunners currently languishing at 10th in the Premier League table.

The Verdict

Portsmouth will be looking to capitalise on the fact Arsenal will be low on confidence following their Europa League exit, but this also means that Arteta may name a strong starting line-up as his side look to re-discover their cutting edge.

It will certainly be a special night at Fratton Park as Pompey welcome one of England's biggest clubs to the south coast, but it seems likely that Arsenal's top-flight quality means they will just be too strong for Portsmouth this evening.

However, Jackett's side should certainly be expected to give a good account of themselves given their improved form in recent months, but they will also surely not mind dropping out of the cup at this stage given the league is their priority.
