After initially trying to land his signature five months ago, Burnley have finally secured a deal to bring Republic of Ireland international striker Michael Obafemi to Turf Moor.

Vincent Kompany tried to sign the 22-year-old in the late stages of the summer transfer window, but Swansea City's then-£12 million price-tag was not met by the Clarets, who refused to go into eight figures for a player who struck 12 times in the Championship during the 2021-22 season.

Ever since Swansea refused to sell Obafemi to Burnley, the ex-Southampton man has been out of form and he has not been in a matchday squad since football returned back in December, scoring just three goals before he was banished from the first-team by Russell Martin.

Patience for Obafemi though has finally paid off as pen has been put to paper on a loan deal until the end of the season to bolster the Championship table-toppers' front-line, and despite many suggesting that Burnley have an obligation to purchase the forward in the summer, both clubs have confirmed that it is only an option.

Speaking to Burnley's official website following completion of the move, Obafemi said:"I'm glad to be here. It's been a busy few days, but I am just glad that it's finally done now.

"When I first heard of Burnley's interest in the summer I was adamant to come here, obviously it didn't happen then but now I'm here and I just can't wait to play in the Claret and Blue." The Verdict Player power has finally won the day here with Obafemi getting the move he tried to force through. Things have not been right for him since his initial move to Burnley broke down a number of months ago and despite being utilised to an extent by Russell Martin, clearly things were strained. If Vincent Kompany can get Obafemi firing though like he was in the second half of last season for Swansea, then Burnley have a very good striker on their hands. They have already splashed the cash on Lyle Foster this month as well and their attack has been given a fresh dynamic - for a team so far clear in the automatic promotion places you wouldn't think they needed two new strikers but this will only make their return to the Premier League come quicker you'd think.
