Following Rotherham United's big EFL Trophy victory against Sutton United at the weekend, they now face seven games in League One as they look to go up as Champions.

Having only won one of their five previous league games, Rotherham went into the final needing a boost.

After initially going one goal down, Rotherham were able to level the scores to go into half-time level. Sutton went ahead again three minutes into the second half but a 96th minute equaliser from the Millers took the game to extra-time where the Millers scored another two times and came away victorious.

Speaking about the Trophy win Michael Ihiekwe, scorer of Rotherham's fourth goal, told The Yorkshire Post: "It's Wembley, isn't it? It doesn't matter what competition you play in, it's at Wembley.

"All your family's there, all the fans have travelled and I don't care what competition you've played in, not many people can say they've won at Wembley."

To come out on top on Saturday required a lot of tenacity from the Millers and Ihiekwe believes his side can use this victory to push them on in the league as they face Charlton on Saturday for their first league games in three weeks.

The 29-year-old said: "We're a smallish squad compared to some teams in the league and that comes with negative sand benefits of course.

"We hadn't really had a blip all season but we've had one now and that break should serve us well. It's just a massive push now for a month.

"I think we were at little bit rusty [on Saturday] but I wouldn't blame it on the few weeks we haven't played.

"I think the break's done us well and then to play in this competition and win should give us the confidence now, it's a brilliant platform so let's go and get promoted.

"Success breeds success so to go there and win was an amazing day for us and our families; now let's have another amazing day by getting promoted and enjoying it with the fans."

The Verdict:

Rotherham will have to give it a massive push now sitting level on points with Wigan behind them who have a game in hand over the Millers. With MK Dons just a point behind in third too, they can't rest of going up automatically.

However as Ihiekwe points out, the break will have done Rotherham some favours as they were facing a dip in form and sometimes it can be hard to get out of a rut like that.

The Trophy victory at the weekend will have given the players a taste of the euphoria of winning and there is no doubt they will not be looking to replicate that feeling in terms of promotion to the Championship motivating them to finish the season on a high.
