Huddersfield Town might be watching on as Leeds United take on the Premier League after winning promotion last season, but there was a time when the pair were consistently going up against each other in the EFL.
Leeds, of course, got the better of Town in last year’s meetings, but back in 2016/17 it was a very different story as Huddersfield themselves were on their way to promotion.
The meeting between the two in February 2017 was a classic. Izzy Brown fired Huddersfield into the lead, with Chris Wood equalising for Leeds. Michael Hefele then popped up to bag the winner, sparking wild scenes involving David Wagner, which upset Garry Monk in the Whites’ dugout.

Footage of that clash at the John Smith’s Stadium has been shared on Twitter, with Hefele responding. That, in turn, has got Brown sending a message the way of his former Huddersfield teammate.
The Terriers would win promotion via the play-offs just months later, before enjoying a two-year spell in the Premier League.
Neither are with Huddersfield anymore, with Hefele moving onto Nottingham Forest and Brown ending up on loan with Sheffield Wednesday after spells with Leeds and Luton Town.
Quiz: Do Huddersfield Town and Leeds United have these 10 things in common?
What a game this was.
It was a great advert for the EFL, with two Yorkshire rivals going end-to-end in pursuit of the win.
Hefele and Brown were the heroes that day and beyond, as Huddersfield won promotion.
However, Leeds are now back on top in terms of their Yorkshire ranking, but Town’s time will come again. It’s just the way football is.
