Former Leeds United midfielder Michael Brown has suggested that the delay to the season could make signing Joe Hart as a free agent more difficult for the Whites.

The 33-year-old is out of contract with Burnley at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to Elland Road.

It is understood Hart would be keen on joining the Whites and is open to taking a pay cut to make that happen.

Due to the delay to the season it is still unclear if, how, and when the 2019/20 campaign will be concluded, which also casts uncertainty over the summer transfer window.

Speaking to Football Insider, Brown has indicated that he feels the delay to the season and could make signing Hart more difficult.

He said: “Joe Hart, I’m sure, will want to keep playing football somewhere. It hasn’t gone the best for him in the last couple of seasons, he’ll feel he still has something to contribute.

“He’s had an outstanding career, hasn’t he? He’s well respected, it hasn’t gone well for him in the last year or two but I hope he’s still hungry to continue his career.

“Joe’s obviously out of contract, I had a conversation with Sean Dyche, we did a thing regarding his players out of contract, he hasn’t really talked to them and said whether he is or isn’t going to offer players contacts. He’s Burnley’s player, we don’t know if these deals are going to get rolled on.

“Until FIFA or UEFA or whoever it is tell us when these deals are going to end, we don’t know. The way it’s looking, we just don’t know when this window’s going to be."

If Leeds are able to sign Hart, they would be adding a huge amount of Premier League experience to their squad.

In addition to 75 England caps, the 33-year-old has 340 Premier League appearances and two titles to his name.

The Englishman's arrival would likely mean an exit for Kiko Casilla, who is understood to be considering a move back to Spain.

The Verdict

It looks as if it could be a very unusual transfer window and potentially one that is shortened significantly.

That is likely going to cause issues for clubs, none more so than Leeds who could be preparing for the Premier League.

If Hart's willing to take a pay cut, as reports suggest, then you feel adding him to their squad could be a smart move and aid the development of 20-year-old Illan Meslier, should they make his deal permanent.
