The break from competitive football continues this week, with the EFL recently announcing that fixtures aren't set to get back underway until deemed safe enough to do so.

With that statement though, there have been concerns as to what the future holds for players that are out-of-contract towards the end of June, with this year's campaign unlikely to be concluded before then.

FIFA have since announced that contracts will be extended until the season reaches a conclusion, as opposed to a specific point in the year.

Leeds United will be one of those clubs to benefit from that, with Marcelo Bielsa having the likes of Illan Meslier, Ben White and Jean-Kevin Augustin on loan in his squad this season.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Leeds midfielder Michael Brown has raised concerns over the potential permanent deals for Meslier and Augustin, with leagues starting and finishing at different points in the year, which will have an impact on any incomings.

"I think in this country it’s sort of going to take care of itself.

"Common sense will come into sense regarding the timings. The issues they’ve got is if we see teams in another country, who have loaned out players, already starting their seasons before England.

"If their seasons have finished and they’re going into another one, that’s where we could see some crossover and a touch of difficulty."

The Verdict:

I completely understand where Brown is coming from here.

There are a number of leagues that start at various points in the year, which is going to make it a confusing and potentially tricky situation for some clubs to get deals in place in the future.

In reference to Leeds United directly, they will be keen to get deals for both Illan Meslier and Jean-Kevin Augustin over the line at the earliest of opportunities.

Meslier in particular has impressed me this season, and I think he'll establish himself as Leeds' first choice goalkeeper in the next few seasons.
