Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton has issued an injury update on the long-awaited return of attacking midfielder Tom Pett.

Tom Pett who was signed in January of 2018 by former manager Danny Cowley from Stevenage, has struggled with numerous knee and back injuries which has kept him out of the side.

Pett picked up an injury during a game against Nottingham Forest which ended up being a medial ligament tear of the knee and would keep him out for up to six weeks, along with this injury, Pett also rarely featured in pre season as he struggled with a back problem.

Appleton has revealed that Pett has been in training for the last two weeks and has said that he could be in contention when Lincoln visit Peterborough at the weekend, although this still may be too soon.

Speaking to Lincolnshire Live, Appleton said, “Petty is probably the closest of the three of them and he has a shout of being in the squad on Saturday. I’ll know more later this week,”

“He’s trained with us for two weeks and has had the odd bit of stiffness in the back and the knee, but he’s then come in the following day and trained, which has got to be a good sign.

“He’s had pretty much two weeks of training now, so he won’t be too far away."

Along with Tom Pett, Appleton has also offered updates on Lee Frecklington and Michael Bostwick.

Appleton said, “Frecks shouldn’t be too far away. I don’t want to put a timeframe on it, but he’s probably a couple of weeks away from being involved in the squad.

“Bozzy, potentially this week or early next week, could start getting involved with us again [in training].

“It could be a bit of time before we see him on the pitch but the pleasing thing for me is that he’s getting closer to getting out there on the grass.”

The Verdict

Lincoln have struggled of late losing five of their last seven games in all competitions and having only scored five goals in that time.

Pett will be a welcome addition back into the squad to add to what they have and might just be the man they need to help supply and score the goals.
