Blackpool striker Shayne Lavery has attracted some interest from Championship rivals Millwall over the last few days, as reported by Football Insider.

However, a further report from the Blackpool Gazette claimed that the Seasiders had knocked back the Lions' approach for the Northern Irish forward.

The pacey, energetic forward netted eight times in the Championship last time out, accumulated just over 1,800 minutes of second-tier action.

The 23-year-old who signed a two-year deal, with the option of an additional 12 months, when he joined last summer, adapted well from the NIFL Premiership.

Seasiders boss Michael Appleton addressed Lavery's situation whilst in conversation with the Blackpool Gazette, and said: “That’s it on that one, we killed it in the water as quickly as it came about.

“At this moment in time, we’ve got two fit strikers, although I don’t think Gaz is a particularly long one by any stretch of the imagination.

“We’re not in a position to be losing strikers at this moment in time.”

The verdict

Still just 23 years of age, Lavery is a player moving in the right direction and possesses all the required attributes to enjoy a successful campaign with the Tangerines.

Proving to be a scorer of goals, creator of chances and a relentless worker off the ball, it is no surprise that Lavery has managed to capture the attention of a club who will be striving to be operating at the top-end of the division come next May.

Should Millwall continue their pursuit beyond their rejected bid, it is unlikely that they will be able to land the 23-year-old's signature.

Not only does he have two years left on his deal, when factoring in the additional 12-month clause, Blackpool are also in no position to sell.
