Former Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce is believed to be interested in returning as the manager if a proposed takeover of the club goes through.

That's according to The Sun, who state that the 64-year-old is 'open' to a second stint at the Stadium of Light if an American company complete a purchase of the Black Cats.

The report states that they would have huge ambitions for the club, with the target of returning to the Premier League as soon as possible.

As well as that, nothing is imminent in terms of Allardyce's return, as they claim Jack Ross will continue in charge for the remainder of this season, whilst he will be given another year if he wins promotion.

However, the experienced boss is clearly a target if things don't go to plan and it's fair to say his potential return prompted a mixed response from the fans, with some not happy in the way he left for England previously.

Here's some of the reaction...
