Sheffield Wednesday might have had low expectations at the start of this season but, wind forward to now and, clearly, things are picking up.

The Owls came into this campaign on the back of a tough summer with next to no investment and concerns over their financial future.

Whilst the money worries still haven't gone completely, though, the Owls have shown that, if you box clever, there's a way around such issues on the pitch.

Our latest FLW Chemistry piece, then, underlines that clearly:

Jos Luhukay, it's safe to say, had some convincing to do at the start of this season and, a few games in, the jury remained out.

Now, though, it looks as though he is at least winning some over having found a system that is working.

Crucially from last year, the Owls needed to work on their defence and in employing a back-three with two wing-backs, that nut looks cracked.

Jordan Thorniley, Ash Baker and Matt Penney have proven gambles that have paid off - three players that will save the Owls serious cash, whilst it's the recently used stars in the centre we're looking at closely.

The addition of Michael Hector has highlighted the recent ability of the Owls to get important calls right as he has looked a class act in the middle.

Tom Lees has stayed fit and, as is the way when players of his class stay injury-free, he has been once again one of the better defenders in the league.

Perhaps most impressively of all, though, has been Daniel Pudil. One player that Luhukay might not have known exactly what to do with this season, he has come into the middle and done a very good job.

At the start of this year, Luhukay had a bunch of players varying in talent and experience that, if put together properly, had potential to yield results.

Some doubted his ability to do just that - and there was obvious scope for it to go awry - but, by the looks of things right now, the Hillsborough jigsaw is now looking towards the complete side of life.
