Tim Cahill is on the verge of re-joining Millwall and will sign a short-term deal until the end of the season with the Championship club.

The 38-year old has been a free agent since leaving Australian A-League side Melbourne City in December and now looks set to return to the club where he began his career, despite interest from other Championship sides including Nottingham Forest.

According to Sky Sports, the former Everton man is currently undergoing a medical and will then sign up with The Lions until May.

Cahill is desperate for first time football in order to improve his chances of playing at the World Cup with Australia in the summer and clearly thinks those opportunities will come under his former teammate Neil Harris.

He spent seven years at The Den from 1997 and became a crowd favourite with his all-action displays from midfield.

Obviously, Cahill has adapted his game over the years and he will be signed as a forward player for Harris, the same role he has played for the national team in recent qualifiers.

The Verdict

This is the news that Millwall fans wanted to hear and they will be delighted that a former icon is returning to The Den.

After a hugely successful career it will surely please the veteran attacker that he can finish his career off at the place where it all began.

But, with a World Cup place up for grabs, there’s no doubt that Cahill will be doing all he can to make significant contributions to the side.
