Huddersfield Town are on the cusp of doing a deal for out-of-favour Derby County midfielder, Duane Holmes.

Holmes was left out of Wayne Rooney's squad on Saturday as Derby suffered a 1-0 defeat to Rotherham United and, as his deal at Pride Park ticks into its final six months, he's set for a move back to West Yorkshire.

Ryan Conway at The Athletic reports how Huddersfield and Derby have agreed a fee for the service of Holmes, who is due for a medical with the Terriers in the coming days.

Can you name each of these 17 ex-Huddersfield Town players just by looking at these 3 clues?

It's further reported by Conway that Holmes, 26, is going to land a three-and-a-half year deal at the John Smith's Stadium.

Holmes has been with Derby over the course of the last two-and-a-half years, making 74 appearances in the Championship and play-offs.

He's made a further nine appearances for the club in the FA Cup and League Cup.

The versatile midfielder had started his career with Huddersfield, making 26 appearances for the Terriers between 2013 and 2016.

His career from there took him to Scunthorpe United and then onto Derby.

The Verdict

Huddersfield losing Carel Eiting to what looks like a season-ending injury means that another midfielder should be on the agenda for Carlos Corberan.

Holmes is versatile and covers the central area, as well as out wide.

However, you see him coming in as a central player given Eiting's injury. That's, arguably, the position that he can really thrive in.

It's a good signing.
