Cardiff City have moved a step closer to completing the signing of Middlesbrough centre-back Aden Flint with the 30-year-old set for a medical in South Wales, report BBC Tees Sport.

Flint only made the move to the Riverside from Bristol City last summer for a fee of around £7million but according to the report the Blue Birds will bring him in for just £4million.

If all goes to plan, he is likely to be confirmed as a Cardiff player in the next 24hours as Neil Warnock looks to revamp his side upoin their Championship return.

Last season saw Flint start 39 times under Tony Pulis as Boro briefly threatened to win promotion before dropping out of the top-six entirely towards the end of the campaign.

If he were to make the move to South Wales he would become the club's fourth signing of the summer, following Joe Day, Will Vaulks and Curtis Nelson to the Cardiff City Stadium.

The Blue Birds saw their stay in the top-flight cut cruelly short following their 2017/18 promotion, finishing just two points from safety.

The verdict

This is an excellent deal for Cardiff and I am surprised Boro are letting him go so easily.

I understand that Flint is not a fan-favourite at the Riverside but considering their lack of resources this summer it would have surely made sense to hold out for more or just keep hold of him.

He is very experienced at this level after all so I believe Boro's loss is very much Cardiff's game in this instance.

That being said, with a centre-back pairing of Sean Morrison and Flint, the Blue Birds are not going to be losing too many aerial battles.
