QPR are edging closer to completing a deal for West Ham striker Jordan Hugill, with a medical set to take place today for the forward.

According to Sky Sports' transfer centre, Hugill is set to go through the formalities of finalising a deal to move to Loftus Road on a season-long loan deal.

Hugill has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League since moving to the Hammers from Preston North End just over a year ago, and will now look to find his form once more with a move to QPR, who are desperate to add some goals to the team ahead of the new season.

The R's have already lost one of their creative sparks this summer after seeing Luke Freeman complete a move to Sheffield United, and the addition of Hugill will no doubt come as a welcome boost to the attacking options the Londoners have.

Hugill was a regular goalscorer for Preston in his previous spell in the Championship, and that form led to him sealing a move to the Hammers in what was a reported £10m deal.

However, he has struggled to get any sort of game time and form going in the top flight, and he will now make the short move across London it seems to the R's, barring any complications with his medical and fitness tests.

A loan spell with Middlesbrough also proved fruitless for Hugill towards the back end of last season, as the Teeside club failed to make the top six under then manager Tony Pulis.

The verdict

This will prove to be a smart move from QPR I think, with Hugill having a point to prove and no doubt desperate to kick on.

He's not going to have to uproot his family and settle again, and he will 100% get the chances at Loftus Road to play 90 minutes and get going again.

He proved with Preston what a good striker he can be, and now is the time for him to try and show just what he can do to prove the doubters wrong.
