Stoke City are edging closer to signing Tom Ince from Huddersfield Town with the player undergoing a medical ahead of his move, according to Sky Sports News.

The two clubs have agreed a transfer fee of £10m and this move is expected to go ahead shortly.

Stoke manager Gary Rowett actually sold Ince to Huddersfield last summer when he was in charge of Derby but is set to sign him as manager of the Potters, just one year later.

The 26-year-old scored twice in 33 games for Huddersfield, helping to keep them afloat in the Premier League.

Prior to that, the former England under-21 international had stints with Blackpool, Hull City and Derby - as well as a number of loan spells - and his tally of 38 goals in 114 games for Derby earned him a Premier League move.

Ince will become Stoke's fifth summer signing, following the arrivals of Benik Afobe, Oghenekaro Etebo, James McClean and Adam Federici.

The Verdict

Although Stoke recently completed a swoop for McClean, Ince is a more like-for-like Shaqiri replacement.

Both are left-footed wingers who prefer to start on the right flank, cut inside and provide goals and assists in that manner, as well as both being deadly from set-pieces.

While Ince may have struggled to make the desired impact in the Premier League, he is a proven Championship threat from the wide areas.
