In one of the day's most unexpected stories, Swansea City striker Borja Baston is now set for a medical at Aston Villa ahead of a deadline day move.

Matt Maher of The Express and Star delivered the update via Twitter, revealing that it would be a permanent deal - something that was expected with Villa already reaching the limit for the number of loan players allowed.

With Wesley out injured for the rest of the season, Dean Smith has been eager to bolster his attack with only Mbwana Samatta and Keinan Davis available to lead the line.

QUIZ: Can you name these 14 Swansea players just by looking at the clubs they have played for?

The 27 year-old made the move to Swansea in the summer of 2016 from Atletico Madrid, although his career never really go going, being sent out on loan to Malaga and Alaves prior to this season.

However, Steve Cooper appeared to have got the best out of him at the start of the current campaign as he netted five times in five games, flying to the top of the goalscoring charts.

But he has not found the net since the end of September and has started just two of Swansea's last 11 league games.

The verdict

Ok, well I guess this is actually happening.

Is this the signing that truly sums up deadline day? A bit of a panic, out of nowhere and more than likely to fail.

In fairness to Villa, they do badly need to bolster their attacking line and bringing in someone with a bit of experience has got to be better than taking a punt on a big club's youth team.

However, his record in the top-flight will not be of much encouragement to his new fans.
