Jack Ross has had a good season in the Sunderland job, and has led them to a good position entering the final weeks of the season.

He has made the Black Cats extremely hard to beat, and could well steer them back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

It would be a marvellous first season.

How would you sum up his season in just three words, though?

We debate…

Alfie Burns

“Measured, handled and encouraging.

“Ross hasn’t struggled under the pressure at the Stadium of Light, with his approach very measured. He’s handled the pressure well and Sunderland seem back on the rise.

“It’s been an encouraging first season under him.”

Lewis Steele

“Calm, better, potential.

“Ross has reacted calmly to anything bad to happen at Sunderland. I think that’s why they’ve only lost two games. He’s done great.

After a downright awful half-decade, Sunderland are much better and finally winning games regularly. Yes, it’s only League One, but it’s much better.

“He’s young, and has bags of potential as a manager.”

George Dagless

"Really, really promising.

"I like Ross and I like what he and Stewart Donald have done for the club.

"It's a far nicer place to be now and the hunger is there across the entire set-up there, great to see."
