It has been a quite remarkable 2018 for Millwall so far and having been fancied by many for relegation at the start of the campaign they now sit just four points off the play-off places with eight games remaining.

Their form since the turn of the year has been testament to boss Neil Harris who has always been confident that his side are good enough to be competitive in the Championship.

The Lions are in their maiden campaign back in the second tier of English football having won the League One play-offs last season and it would represent a meteoric rise should Harris achieve the unthinkable and guide his team into the top six this time around.

Harris has one of the smallest budgets in the division to work with and it seems likely that he will have to operate on shoestring once again next season.

FLW writer Lee Clarke looks at three players that Harris could look to take on free transfers ahead of the 2018/19 campaign...

The tough-tackling midfielder fits the bill of a Neil Harris-type player given his robust, hard-working nature and swooping for the player in the summer could be a shrewd move by the Lions' boss.

The 27-year-old has played 30 times for Birmingham City so far this season and his vast Championship experience would make him a decent signing for several second tier outfits.

With Lee Gregory out of contract during the summer months, boss Harris might be in a situation where he needs to scour the market for a striker and Republic of Ireland man McGoldrick will be a sought-after player during the summer.

The 30-year-old has struggled for large parts of the 2017/18 campaign with injury problems but nonetheless he would represent a real piece of business by Millwall if they can secure his services on a free.

The ex-Nottingham Forest man is out of contract with Queens Park Rangers in the summer and the lure of staying in London might be an attractive proposition for the versatile performer.

Perch is at the stage in his career where he needs to play regular football and he would offer the Lions' young group of players some much needs experience.
