McGahey completes Blades switch

Sheffield United have completed their long-awaited move for Blackpool’s Harrison McGahey.

McGahey has finally completed his transfer to Sheffield United.

McGahey has finally completed his transfer to Sheffield United.

The League One side have announced that the 18 year-old has agreed a two-year deal with Nigel Clough’s team. The fee is set to be decided via a tribunal.

McGahey impressed last season with Blackpool, making three appearances as the Seasiders secured survival in the Championship. However the departure of Barry Ferguson from Bloomfield Road alongside a summer of inaction at Blackpool left a vacuum for the Blades to swoop in for McGahey.

The centre-back is now the 18th player to leave Blackpool this summer, leaving the club with just eight first-team players for the forthcoming league season. Uncertainty surrounds the future of manager Jose Riga who could leave after a dispute with chairman Karl Oyston.

The young defender also becomes the second player to swap Bloomfield Road for Bramall Lane with Chris Basham moving to Sheffield United earlier in the summer.

With a tribunal set to decide the fee for McGahey, the defender could cost the Blades in the region of £1 million including appearance-related add-ons.
