MK Dons have revealed that former Swindon left-back Jay McEveley is training with the club.
The 29 year-old has Premier League experience from his spells with Blackburn Rovers and Derby County and is now seeking a new club after being released by Swindon this summer. Manager Karl Robinson has long been an admirer of the former Scotland international, as reported by the BBC in May this year.
McEveley will now take part in MK Dons’ pre-season tour of Ireland, which begins next week. Karl Robinson is looking to improve his squad after two consecutive seasons where the club has failed to make the play-offs.
Academy midfield duo Dele Alli and Brendan Galloway are expected to leave this summer to Liverpool and Everton respectively, so the club will have considerable funds available to them for the coming season. Robinson has already added three new signings to his squad this summer in the shape of forward Tom Hitchcock, winger Danny Green and defender Kyle MacFadzean. Jay McEveley could join that list within the next two weeks.
Should he sign, McEveley would compete for a first-team spot with club stalwart Dean Lewington. Lewington is the only MK Dons player who was part of the Wimbledon squad who left for Milton Keynes in 2003. The left-back is now in his testimonial season at the club. Nottingham Forest are the opponents for Lewington’s testimonial game on July 27th.
