Queens Park Rangers face a busy week ahead as Steve McClaren finally gets to know the players he has at his disposal.

Pre-season is set to start today and for the first time, McClaren takes charge of his team for next season.

This summer, owner Tony Fernandes decided to chop and change things at Loftus Road, opting to part ways with Ian Holloway after two mid-table finishes.

In his place, he has appointed former Middlesbrough, England, Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United manager McClaren in the hope that he can inspire them to a promotion push.

With June coming to an end, the new season is in sight and preparations for the new campaign will be fully underway by the end of this week.

Here are three things that we expect to happen at QPR this week.

With pre-season starting this week, a number of younger players such as Olamide Shodipo, Joe Lumley, Ilias Chair, Eberichi Eze and Bright Osayi-Samuel will be looking to catch McClaren's eye as he decides who to keep and who to loan out.

Meanwhile, other fringe players who were not fancied by Holloway - such as David Wheeler and Sean Goss - will also be aiming to impress this week to save their future at Loftus Road.

With Australia likely to come crashing out of the World Cup at the group stage, McClaren needs to start imminent talks with Luongo over his future.

The 25-year-old is a highly talented midfield man and his presence in the middle is crucial to QPR's success.

QPR need a new defender after losing Nedum Onuoha and Jack Robinson.

This will be McClaren's priority and a potential move for Preston's Paul Huntington could happen.
