Ipswich Town have made a very underwhelming start to the season, currently occupying a 17th position in the Championship, which is much lower than expected.

One thing which has really worried the Ipswich faithful is the lack of attacking intent, with just 18 goals scored so far this season.

According to whoscored.com, they also hold the second worst record in the league for shots on target per game with an average of just 3.4.

With the January window now just around the corner, Mick McCarthy will undoubtedly be putting together a list of potential targets and that will more than likely comprise of mainly attacking players.

If Ipswich bring in the right players in the upcoming window then they could recover their poor start to the season and push themselves back into the top half of the table.

In this article, Football League World writer Tom Rawcliffe will identify 2 players who Mick McCarthy and Ipswich Town cannot afford to miss out on signing...

Omar Bogle

With the second worst goal scoring record in the league it is clear that Mick McCarthy could do with some reinforcements up front after no replacement was brought in following the departure of Daryl Murphy.

An option for McCarthy to consider could be dipping into League Two to recruit the in-demand forward Omar Bogle.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed an incredible season so far with an outstanding return of 16 league goals.

However, Ipswich will do very well to fight off many competitors with a lot of Championship clubs said to be interested in the former Birmingham forward.

Michael Kightly

Another option for McCarthy could be to reunite with Michael Kightly, whom he worked with during his time in Wolverhampton.

The left midfielder has struggled to seal a place in the Burnley side this season and has frustratingly played just 94 minutes in the Premier League this year.

If Kightly is signed by the Tractor Boys then he will massively contribute to their attacking play and could help the side in pushing up the Championship table.
