The former Walsall man has been on trial with the Wirral side over the last couple of weeks and played a part in three of Rovers’ pre-season friendlies.

The 25 year old will provide competition at centre back for fellow summer recruits Marcus Holness and Michael Ihiekwe.

Rovers boss Rob Edwards said: “Clayton isn’t quite there with his fitness yet, but I’ve been encouraged by what I’ve seen in training and the game and agreeing non-contract terms with him means he can be included in our squad.

“He’ll get better and better the fitter he gets and we can sit down and discuss his future with him then.”
