Mayor starts: The predicted Plymouth Argyle XI to face Birmingham in the FA Cup on Saturday

Plymouth will have cup shock aspirations in their minds this weekend as they take on Birmingham City in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

Of course, it would not be the biggest shock if the Pilgrims earned a win against the Blues as the two sides are not that far apart in the football pyramid, with Birmingham in the bottom half of the Championship and Argyle challenging for a play-off spot.

One thing Argyle might have to contend with, though, is rustiness.

Thanks to the plethora of postponements we have had in recent weeks, Plymouth have not played a competitive fixture since Boxing Day, and it’s going to be interesting to see how that impacts them.

Will they look off of the mark or will they feel rejuvenated for the rest? Time will only tell.

That all said, we can see Steven Schumacher naming a pretty similar side to the one that did play last time out, in the 2-0 win over Cheltenham:

Plymouth will certainly fancy their chances of causing a cup upset this weekend with Birmingham losing their last two matches in the league and with the Blues also having not won a match since November thanks to postponements and poor form.

It could be a close-fought affair.
