Middlesbrough hope to sign Ryan Giles permanently from Wolves this summer, according to Teesside Live

The Premier League loanee has impressed again down in the Championship and there is said to be hope on Teesside that he can be signed permanently in the summer - though it is uncertain whether they'll be able to get such a deal done.

So, would Giles be a good signing for Boro? And can they get him?

We quizzed our FLW writers...

I do think this could be a decent signing for Middlesbrough.

With Giles currently at the club on loan, Carrick is getting the best possible look at the player to decide on whether or not a permanent move would be right.

In that sense, if the Boro boss wants to bring him back permanently, you'd have to back him.

I do think he's a realistic target for them, too.

It's remarkable that he's only ever played one game for Wolves and been out on loan so many times, but at 23, now might be the time to find himself a new permanent home.

His deal at Molineux does not expire until 2025 though, so Boro may have to pay a decent fee for him, especially if they were to be promoted.

If I were Wolves, there's no way I'd be selling Ryan Giles permanently.

He's shown what a quality player is in his loan spells in the Championship and deserves his chance to prove himself at Molineux.

Whether Julen Lopetegui offers him that remains to be seen but if Boro can get this deal done, it will be fantastic business.

He offers true creative quality from left-back and at just 23 years old, the best may well be yet to come.

18 Championship assists over the past two seasons are proof of what a weapon he is and Boro would do well to sign him permanently.

When Michael Carrick decided to switch to a four at the back formation, I was expecting Giles to perhaps be utilised more as a winger due to his pace and delivery.

However, Carrick has entrusted him with the left-back position despite some of his defensive deficiencies, and with Boro being a very effective attacking team it's no surprise to see him thriving in whatever role he's being used in.

Giles has barely had a chance at Wolves and has instead been farmed out on multiple loan deals, so you can understand if he wants some kind of stability from the 2023-24 season onwards.

It looks like Middlesbrough want to offer him that, and whilst he may cost a few million pounds to take away from Molineux, it is money worth spending for a versatile left-sided player with the delivery that he possesses.
