‘May as well stick by him’, ‘He’s got to go’ – Many Reading FC fans left divided on 44-year-old after Sheffield United loss

Championship side Reading fell to their fifth defeat in seven league games last night as they suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Sheffield United, with Jayden Bogle’s 57th-minute strike proving to be the difference between the two sides.

In a game that lacked quality and urgency, one crucial switch-off at the back from last night’s hosts at the Select Car Leasing Stadium was particularly costly, with David McGoldrick supplying an inch-perfect cross to the 21-year-old to capitalise on Baba Rahman’s lack of concentration and fire home past Luke Southwood.

With this, the Berkshire outfit now find themselves just two points off the relegation zone in 20th and could enter the drop zone tonight if Hull City and Peterborough United win their respective midweek ties.

Lucas Joao scored how many league goals for the Royals last term?

Despite winning four points from six against Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest in their two fixtures prior to their clash with the Blades, a six-point deduction implemented last week for breaking the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability rules has slightly changed the complexion of the Royals’ season.

Previously looking set to climb into the play-off spots after going 2-0 up against Blackpool before half-time just over a month ago, they now find themselves in a perilous position going into Saturday afternoon’s game at Swansea City.

In their current position, questions will inevitably be asked of manager Veljko Paunovic who endured a perfect start to his tenure as the second-tier side’s manager in 2020/21 before their gradual decline as the season went on, and is now looking like he will be in a relegation battle with the club this term as things stand.

But what verdict have Reading fans delivered on the Serbian after last night’s game? Are they Paunovic in? Do they think it’s time for him to go?

We take a look at a selection of their responses on Twitter.
