Sunderland midfielder Max Power has shared his thoughts after his side booked their place in the League One play-off final after seeing of Portsmouth in the semis.

After winning the first-leg 1-0 at the Stadium of Light a 0-0 draw at Fratton Park on Thursday night was enough to see them progress, and Power was quick to praise his teammates.

Writing on Instagram, alongside a photograph of himself and Grant Leadbitter, he said: "Everyone to a man brilliant!! One last hurdle! Ha’way the lads."

In a scrappy affair at Fratton Park, Sunderland came off the better, with the draw meaning Chris Maguire's first-leg volley was enough to send the Black Cats through.

Despite going into the game knowing they needed to win, Portsmouth struggled to create many clear-cut chances and found Jon McLaughlin in inspired when they eventually did.

They will now face either Charlton Athletic or Doncaster Rovers in the final at Wembley next weekend as they look to return to the Championship.

The verdict

Power is absolutely right.

Last night's game was not a quality affair by any means but everyone in the Sunderland team did their jobs.

Hard work off the ball from the attacking unit and a solid defensive line meant that Portsmouth never looked likely to break through and confirmed their second trip to Wembley of the season.
