Sunderland midfielder Max Power has taken to social media to reflect, after scoring the winner against Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup last night.

The 26-year-old scored the only goal of the game in the ninth minute, a spectacular 25-yard strike into the top corner to give his side a deserved 1-0 win at Bramall Lane.

It is the second time that Sunderland have knocked a Premier League side out of the Carabao Cup this season, following their 3-1 win at Burnley in the second round.

The Black Cats will face their League One rivals Oxford United away from home in the fourth round of the competition and will be looking to continue their momentum.

Power has taken to social media to react to the performance and reflect on the result. The midfielder has posted a photo of himself striking the ball for his goal on his personal Instagram account and added a message to Sunderland fans.

'Great team performance last night! Through to the next round,' Power wrote on Instagram.

Sunderland just missed out on promotion to the Championship last season and are currently fifth in League One, after taking 16 points from their opening nine matches.

The Verdict

It was a fantastic strike from Power, but it was a brilliant team performance from Sunderland and they deserved to win the game.

Even though Sunderland have only lost once this season, they'd drawn their last couple of games and some of the players had been criticised for their recent displays.

Promotion will remain the primary objective for Sunderland this season, so to put in a performance like that and to knock another Premier League side out of the cup will give the the players a huge confidence boost going into their next few league matches.
