Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says that he is yet to hear from Max Clayton’s representatives regarding the player’s future.
The young striker has been the subject of much speculation in recent months after rejecting several contract offers from the club. Reports suggest that numerous League One and Championship clubs are monitoring his situation but Crewe are still hopeful of keeping the youngster at the Gresty Road.
He suffered a fractured ankle during the last season and returned to training in April.
“Max has been into training. He has continued to use the weights and working on his physique. He worked very hard to come back from his injury,” Davis said for the official website.
“We have had no dialogue with Max or his representative over his contract. We have made him an offer and are just waiting to hear back from him. I am still looking to bring in another forward regardless of Max signs or not because we need another one anyway now that AJ Leitch-Smith has left and Byron (Moore) has chosen not to sign.
“Max knows we want him to stay and get back playing football again with us.”
