Rotherham United boss Matt Taylor has said that Sheffield United are the second best team in the Championship 'by a mile' following his side's clash with the Blades this weekend, predicting that they will only get stronger as they get players back from injury.

The two Yorkshire-based sides played out a 0-0 draw at the New York Stadium on Saturday afternoon, leaving Rotherham in 20th and Sheffield United 2nd in the league standings.

Speaking after the match, Millers boss Taylor had nothing but good things to say about his side's opponents on the day.

"They're the second best team in the league by a mile from what I've seen," Taylor exclaimed, via The Yorkshire Post.

"They've got constant quality, and experience and know-how for the level.

"They're so hard to break down, they're strong in both boxes, they're excellent at set-pieces and they've got more ways of winning a game than just their plan A.

"If injured players come back, they're only going to get stronger.”

Sheffield United currently have a ten point advantage over third-placed Middlesbrough, with 17 matches left to play this season.

They trail league leaders Burnley by seven points.

The Verdict

Looking at the league table, you'd say Sheffield United are certainly the second best side in the division.

Even if you wanted to debate that, you cannot argue with the fact that they have been the second most consistent side in the division this season.

Matt Taylor is right to label Sheffield United in this way and predict they will only get stronger with players returning from injury, with the likes of Rhys Norrington-Davies, John Fleck, Enda Stevens, Ciaran Clark and Rhian Brewster just some of the names currently unavailable to the Blades.

With those players out and Sheffield United continuing to pick up results, it just goes to show the value of having a strong and deep squad across a 46 game Championship season.
