Matt Phillips has praised his new West Bromwich Albion teammate Dwight Gayle, following the Baggies' 7-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers.

According to The Express and Star, Phillips, who has been on the books at the Hawthorns since 2016, has spoken highly of the 28-year-old striker on loan from Premier League side Newcastle United.

Phillips stated: “Dwight's always scored goals. If you put the ball in the right areas, he's going to get goals and Harvey's started on flames as well so we've got a lot of attacking potential.”

Gayle signed a season-long loan deal at West Bromwich Albion, with Baggies centre forward Salomon Rondon heading to St James' Park on a one-year deal this summer.

Both Dwight Gayle and Matt Phillips found the net in the Baggies thumping of Steve McClaren’s side, with the latter scoring twice.

Darren Moore’s side have started the season relatively strongly, picking up seven points from their opening four fixtures.

The Verdict

Having not found his feet in the Premier League, Dwight Gayle has got off to a strong start this campaign, and deserves to recognition he has received from his Baggies team mate.

Phillips, who has had a phenomenal start to the 2018/19 Championship season, seems to have already started a strong partnership with the Newcastle-owned striker.

If West Brom continue scoring and playing well like they did against Queens Park Rangers further into the season, they will certainly be considered one of the top teams in the league, and favourites for promotion.
