West Bromwich Albion winger Matt Phillips has posted a photo on social media, after returning to pre-season training with the Baggies.

The 27-year-old was an important player for Albion last season, as the team just missed out on promotion from the Championship.

Phillips scored five goals and provided six assists in 30 Championship appearances for West Brom last season, as the Baggies finished fourth in the league table.

The winger played in both legs of the Baggies' play-off semi-final against Aston Villa, where the team lost on penalties after a dramatic second leg at the Hawthorns.

Phillips and his teammates returned to the club today for the start of pre-season training and for their first training session under new head coach Slaven Bilic.

The forward posted this photo on his personal

/">Instagram account, showing him arriving at the Hawthorns ahead of the training session and added a message saying: 'Let's go'.

West Brom sacked head coach Darren Moore in March, with the team nine points outside the automatic promotion places in the Championship, but first-team coach James Shan took caretaker charge and was able to cement the team's position in the top six.

Bilic was appointed as the Baggies' new permanent manager earlier this month and took charge of his first training session at his new club today, as the team prepare for their opening game of the Championship campaign against Nottingham Forest.

The Verdict

Phillips was an important player for West Brom last season and I'm sure he will be hoping to play another important role for the team next season, as they look to challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

He's been an important player for the Baggies over the past few season and I'm sure he will be keen to impress his new manager in training, in the hope that he gets into his plans for the first game of the season.
